If so our skilled artists will identify any unique characteristics in the photo which are later reflected in the completed paint scheme. This is why no two mounts are ever exactly alike and explains the differences you may see in the coloration of the various mounts. - Fishmount Species Information
- Scientific Name: Seriola rivoliana
- Average Weight: 2 - 15 lbs.
- Location & Habitat: This species occurs in most of the world’s tropical waters, entering temperate waters in some areas. The distribution in the eastern Atlantic is not well established and it is absent from the Red Sea and French Polynesia. Almaco jacks inhabit the outer reef slopes and offshore banks, where they may form small schools. They are rarely caught in inshore waters. Young almaco jacks are often seen far offshore around floating objects.
- Biology: Adults can reach 3.5 lbs. and usually weigh 15 - 30 lbs, though they may exceed 130 lbs. Almaco jacks are known for their stamina and strength, making them a prized target of deep-sea sport fishermen. Like other jacks, Almaco jacks like to remove parasites from their skin by rubbing themselves on the rough skin of passing sharks and occasionally, human divers they mistake for sharks.
- Physical Description: In the almaco jack, the front few rays of the second dorsal fin are about twice as long or longer than the longest dorsal spines. The body color may be almost brownish or olivaceus with the sides and belly lighter, sometimes with brassy or lavender reflections. There is often a dark nucal bar through the eye to the upper back and sometimes an amber stripe extends from the eye along the body.
